| 2391 | 2020 Thesis | Power and resistance during Saddam Hussein regimes rule in selected contemporary Iraqi novels Shamkhy, Saad Zaati The aim of the present research was to analyse political oppression and brutality during
Saddam Hussein regime’s rule in Iraq based on fictions by selected Iraqi writers. The
main objective of this research is to show how the regime abused its power to subjugate
the Iraqi population as depicted in the contemporary Iraqi novels. The selected novels
for analysis were An Iraqi in Paris, Dates on My Fingers, Ijaam, Saddam City, The
Scattered Crumbs, and The Corpse Washer. Using Michel Foucault’s concepts of
sovereign power, surveillance, and resistance as the theoretical framework, the study
shows how the Baath Party’s stranglehold on power adversely affected the lives of
Iraqis. The selected novels highlighted oppression, inequality, and restrictions on
freedom during the regime’s rule. They were also emblematic of the Baath Party and
its tyrannical domination of Iraqi society. Scattered Crumbs and The Corpse Washer

| 2392 | 2019 Thesis | Investigating the effect of Tai Chi and Zumba gold(R) on markers of physiological and phychological health in older age adults Nor Fadila Kasim As the average life expectancy of populations across the world increases, there is a
growing challenge to maintain the health of older adults into older age. Older adults are at
greater risk of endothelial dysfunction, reduction in functional fitness and mental ill-health
issues such as depression, anxiety and loneliness. Research has suggested that low physical
activity (PA) among older age populations contributes to an increase in oxidative stress and
inflammation, which contribute to perpetuate further endothelial dysfunction, and growing
mental ill-health. Low PA coupled to the natural process of sarcopenia are factors in an older
adults’ decreased functional fitness, which limits their ability to do things independently. This
creates a declining spiral in ageing leading to isolation, disease and eventually death.
Therefore, encouraging older adults to increase their PA and adhere to an exercise programme
is crucial in offsetting the effects of ageing. However, not all ..... 483 hits |
| 2393 | 2021 Thesis | Fish scale hydroxyapatite/collagen composites incorporated with silver nanoparticles for bone filler applications Jahil, Mustafa Mudhafar The aim of this study was to improve antimicrobial properties of fish scales
hydroxyapatite/fish collagen (FsHA/FsCol) composites through infiltration of silver nanoparticles
into the matrix for antimicrobial bone filller substitute. In this sudy both hydroxyapatite and
collagen were extracted from fish scales using simple hydrothermal extraction method. Silver
nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized from silver nitrate using microwave-assisted method in which
neems leaves extract was used as reducing agent while fish collagen as stabilizer. FsHA/FsCol/AgNPs
composites were prepared in a form of powders and beads using two different methods. Chemical and
physical properties of AgNPs and FsHA/FsCol/AgNPs composites were characterized using field
emmision scanning electron microscope with energy dispersive x-ray (FESEM-EDX), transmission
electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and x-ray

| 2396 | 2021 Thesis | The hysterical female: a sychoanalytic approach to analyse female characters in the selected novels by Tony Morrison Abed, Maha Yasir Hysteria was a phenomenon commonly portrayed in the twentieth century's literature, and for its
importance, it needs to be discussed in the current context. In this research, I argue that
patriarchal, physical, and sexual violation are the causes of a psychological disorder that weakens
females' personality that may lead to hysteria among them. Toni Morrison is a post-modern feminist
contemporary writer, whose work focuses on the problems of slavery and women. In her Paradise, A
mercy, The Bluest Eye, and Beloved, hysteria appears as a female character that symbolizes their
problems and difficulties. This research aims to examine how females are pushed to be hysteric by
family or society, how Toni Morrison depicts it, and how these female characters get rid of
hysteria to help them live as ordinary human beings based on Kristeva's concept of abjection. In
general, females are more reserved to express their feelings openly as males do, and as such, the
