The usage of digital games in learning biology among form four students in Malaysia

This study investigated the usage of Digital Games (DG) in learning Biology among Form Four students in Malaysia. It is aimed at identifying general overview of the students’ interest in using DG in learning of Biology. It also explored the effectiveness as well as the problems faced by students’ while using DG in the learning process. This study was conducted in a sub-urban secondary school in Kinta District, Perak. Six Form 4, consisted of four males and two females students participated in this study. A qualitative research design was utilized to answer the research questions. Individual indepth interviews and also laboratory observations were carried out to collect the data needed for this study. The data was analysed using coding. ‘Verbatim Transcripts’ were used to describe the data. Analysis of the data reveals that DG arouses students’ interest as well as motivates them in learning Biology. In addition, the results also indicate that students gain benefits .....

Exploring the redesign value of Chinese traditional Auspicious patterns in the context of modern design

Chinese traditional auspicious patterns have a history of thousands of years since primitive times. After the Ming Dynasty, auspicious patterns with multi-element combinations appeared and were widely used in people's lives, but nowadays, their application in life is very scarce. Because their style no longer aligns with the modern aesthetic, they must be redesigned. This paper studies the transformation from traditional Chinese auspicious patterns to modern patterns, mainly using qualitative research, expert interviews, studio research, and questionnaires. The three principles of Chinese traditional auspicious pattern redesign and the APR four-step method summarized in this study can provide a reference value for other auspicious pattern redesigns. It is conducive to their promotion and application to promote the application of auspicious patterns in daily life. Challenges of COVID-19 Crisis on Malaysias education sector

This paper aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the development of Malaysia’s education policies over the years. In addition, this study seeks to further draw attention to the recent implications of COVID-19 on Malaysia’s education sector. The education policies developed in the past decades have highlighted that Malaysia Government had continuously shown tremendous support and has put high emphasis on the education sector. However, the pandemic crisis has disrupted learning and posed new challenges to the education system and the policies developed in the past. Therefore, this paper will employ a narrative review to draw lessons based on the observations retrieved from existing literature and various secondary sources such as policy briefs, media, commentaries, and documentaries of related evidence on the challenges of the pandemic crisis to the education system and its policy. Using video blogging (Vlog) to enhance english language speaking skills in a Malaysian secondary school

Technology offers various means to enhance teaching and learning. In this study, Video Blogging (VLOG) was implemented as a tool for second language learning. The study aimed to investigate the use of VLOG to enhance the speaking skills of Malaysian secondary school students and to explore their experiences of using VLOG. The participants consisted of 80 Form 2 students who were enrolled in a Malaysian public school. This study employed a qualitative research design and data collection was done through open-ended questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. Data collected from the questionnaire and interview were analysed using thematic analysis. Based on the findings, the study demonstrated that the use of VLOG contributed positively to the student’s speaking skills by improving their fluency, motivating them to speak in English, and enhancing their vocabulary. Unlocking the potential of game-based learning for soft skills development a comprehensive review

Soft skills are critical for undergraduate students to succeed in the workplace, but there exists a gap between the skills possessed by undergraduate students and those required by the industry. This review explores the use of game-based learning (GBL) for developing soft skills among undergraduate students. The review aims to answer four research questions that cover essential aspects of GBL, such as its theoretical foundation, skill development, game design elements, and assessment methods. Following the Preferred Reporting for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines, we selected 24 journal articles with empirical results from Scopus databases spanning 2017 to 2023, applying inclusion and exclusion criteria to finalize 18 articles for review. Transitioning from scratch to Java a mixed method investigation into students\ learning processes

This research examines the transition from Scratch to Java programming, highlighting high achievement among participants. The study includes 70 students and utilizes mixed methods, combining quantitative analysis and qualitative narratives. Findings demonstrate the effectiveness of Scratch Visual Teaching Aids (VTA) in developing educational games, understanding algorithm concepts, and improving programming projects. Students' attitudes towards Scratch VTA show increased interest, concentration, and enjoyment in learning. Quantitative analysis indicates positive tool capabilities (mean scores ranging from 3.25 to 3.46). Qualitative narratives reveal varying perceptions of the transition, with prior programming knowledge influencing the shift. Challenges include adapting to the learning session and mastering Java's syntax and concepts. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti tahap kefahaman serta pengamalan guruguru sekolah rendah daerah Port Dickson mengenai kemahiran pemikiran komputasional dalam pengajaran mata pelajaran STEM. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan menggunakan kaedah borang soal selidik. Instrumen kajian ini dibahagikan kepada tiga bahagian iaitu demografi guru, tahap kefahaman . Kajian ini melibatkan 118 orang guru dari Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan, Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina dan Sekolah Rendah Jenis kebangsaan Tamil dari daerah Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan dipilih sebagai sampel kajian. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis deskriptif dan inferens dengan menggunakan perisian SPSS IBM Version 25.0. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan kefahaman guru dalam pemikiran komputasional berada pada tahap yang tinggi iaitu Min (min=4.08, sp=0.62). Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mereka bentuk dan membangunkan Garis Panduan Pembelajaran Koperatif dalam Rancangan Pengajaran Harian (RPH) bagi subjek Lukisan Bangunan di Kolej Vokasional (KV). Terdapat kekurangan dalam panduan pengajaran dan pembelajaran subjek Lukisan Bangunan di KV. Hasil dari transformasi KV memberi kesan kepada kaedah penyediaan pengajaran dan pembelajaran itu sendiri. Garis Panduan ini dibangunkan berdasarkan kepada teori Konstruktivism Sosial Vygotsky. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan Reka Bentuk dan Pembangunan (DDR) untuk membangunkan Garis Panduan RPH dan menjawab empat persoalan kajian dengan melalui empat fasa kajian selaras dengan pendekatan kajian. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji hubungan antara amalan organisasi pembelajaran dengan kepimpinan guru Sekolah Kebangsaan Berprestasi Tinggi Daerah Petaling di negeri Selangor. Pendekatan kuantitatif dengan reka bentuk tinjauan digunakan dalam kajian ini. Sampel kajian yang dipilih adalah seramai 200 orang guru Sekolah Kebangsaan Berprestasi Tinggi Daerah Petaling, Selangor. Pemilihan sampel kajian ini adalah menggunakan teknik pensampelan rawak mudah. Pengumpulan data bagi kajian ini adalah dengan menggunakan soal selidik. Instrumen kajian ini telah diadaptasi daripada Learning Organization Questionnaire for School (LOQS) dan Teacher Leadership Inventory (TLI). Dapatan kajian menunjukkan tahap amalan organisasi pembelajaran (min = 4.27, SP = 0.27) dan tahap kepimpinan guru (min = 4.42, SP = 0.35) berada di tahap tinggi. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti amalan penggunaan ABBM dalam kalangan Guru PSV Tingkatan 1 bagi pengajaran dan pembelajaran Bahasa Seni Visual (BSV), mereka bentuk sebuah kit pembelajaran yang sesuai bagi pengajaran dan pembelajaran BSV serta menentusahkan kebolehgunaan Kit BAHtra bagi pengajaran dan pembelajaran BSV. Kajian ini merupakan kajian kualitatif dengan menggunakan reka bentuk kajian kes yang merangkumi analisis kandungan dan temu bual. Kajian ini mengaplikasikan reka bentuk model ADDIE dalam proses pembinaan kit pembelajaran yang melibatkan lima fasa utama iaitu Analisis, Reka Bentuk, Pembangunan, Pelaksanaan dan Penilaian. Seramai tujuh orang responden dalam kalangan Guru PSV Tingkatan 1 telah terlibat dalam Fasa Analisis, manakala tiga orang pakar bagi Fasa Reka Bentuk dan Fasa Pembangunan.
