Diagnosis of diabetes mellitus based on 11 health risk factors using backpropagation
Arifin, Fatchul
Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a non-communicable disease and is a severe chronic illness. Early detection of DM is one way to detect the possibility of someone getting DM. This application was made to determine the accuracy of the diagnosis of DM using backpropagation ANN. There are 11 risk factors used, namely gender, smoker or not, heredity, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, total cholesterol levels, HDL (High-Density Lipoprotein) levels, LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein) levels, triglyceride levels, BMI (Body Mass Index), and HBA1c levels (Hemoglobin A1c). Risk factors are taken based on medical records of DM patients and data on healthy people. The training and testing of artificial neural networks showed promising results for the suitability of network output and desired targets with a correlation coefficient of 0.98043. The results of testing showed promising results for network output and target match desired with a correlation coefficient of 0.97894. ? 2021 Published u.....

Development of vernonia amygdalina leaf extract emulsion formulations in controlling gray mold disease on tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum mill.)
Siti Izera Ismail
Postharvest fruits including tomatoes are commonly infected by gray mold disease resulting in significant economic losses in the fruit industry. Therefore, this study aimed to develop botanical fungicide derived from Vernonia amygdalina leaf extract to control gray mold on tomato. The emulsion formulation containing surfactant, oil carrier and water was optimized at different non-ionic alkyl polyglucoside surfactants through eleven combinations of oil to surfactant ratio (0:10, 1:9, 2:8, 3:7, 4:6, 5:5, 6:4, 7:3, 8:2, 9:1 and 10:0 w/w). From eight selected formulations, two formulations, F5 and F7 showed stable in storage, remarkable thermodynamic stability, smaller particle size (66.44 and 139.63 nm), highly stable in zeta potential (?32.70 and ?31.70 mV), low in polydispersity index (0.41 and 0.40 PdI), low in viscosity (4.20 and 4.37 cP) and low in surface tension (27.62 and 26.41 mN/m) as compared to other formulations. In situ antifungal activity on tomato fruits showed F5 formulat.....

Development of IoT-based mhealth framework for various cases of heart disease patients
Albahri, O.S.
A newly distributed fault-tolerant mHealth framework-based Internet of things (IoT) is proposed in this study to resolve the essential problems of healthcare service provision during the occurrence of frequent failures in a telemedicine architecture. Two models are presented to support the telehealth development of chronic heart disease (CHD) in a distant environment. In model-1, a new local multisensor fusion triage algorithm known as three-level localisation triage (3LLT) is proposed. In 3LLT, a group of heterogeneous sources is applied to triage patients as a clinical process, and the emergency levels inside/outside the home of a patient with CHD are determined. Failures related to sensor fusion can also be detected. In model-2, a centralised IoT connection towards distributed smart hospitals is employed by mHealth based on two attributes: (1) healthcare service packages and (2) time of arrival of a patient at a hospital. Three decision matrices have been used to overcome several is.....

Development of genetic tools for protein overexpression from pseudomonas
Wong, Chee Fah
Overexpression of a number of industrially- and medically-important proteins is always a challenge for most researchers as genes from bacterial hosts especially from the opportunistic pathogen, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, as well as from other Pseudomonads were reported to be poorly expressed in E. coli. Examples continue to be published demonstrating that certain Pseudomonas proteins cannot be expressed at satisfactory levels in E. coli owing to their promoter variations, absence of specific molecular activators and poor protein translation. Nevertheless, the extension of E. coli-based technology to Pseudomonas can be used to overcome such barriers. In this chapter, the evolution and modification of genetic tools ranging from types of promoters, elements for interspecies transfer, origins of replications, regulatory genes, genes facilitating in genome integration and host strains, used in the construction of Escherichia-Pseudomonas shuttle expression vectors will be explored and discussed.....
