Penggunaan perisian autograph dalam pengajaran topik graf fungsi kuadratik di kalangan pelajar tingkatan empat

This research is aimed at finding out the effectiveness of using the Autograph software in the teaching of Quadratic Function Graph. The format used in this research is Quasi Experiment non-equivalent group design. The teaching and learning of Quadratic Function Graph using the software was carried out in one of the schools in Tapah, Perak. A comparison is then made with the traditional method of teaching this topic to Form Four Science stream students. A total of students (intact group) are selected as respondents. The students’ test achievement is based on the different increase in the mean score test (post – pre) between the treatment and the control group. The test questions were prepared according to the levels of knowledge, understanding and application of concept (according to the Taxonomy of Bloom) in the topic. Student achievement and factors related to mechanics achievement in Zanzibar middle secondary schools

This study investigated the achievement amongst Zanzibar’s form four students and the relationship of selected variables to achievement in mechanics which also determines the standard of physics performance. Zanzibar physics teachers complained that the standard of physics performance has fallen amongst form four students (form five students for Malaysian education system). They lamented that students were unable to answer even the basic questions in basic mechanics. These grievances were not substantiated by any study before. Therefore, it is important to study the Zanzibar’s student achievement in mechanics and factors related to their achievement. The main purpose of this study is to examine the implementation of Needham’s Five Phase Constructivism Teaching Model in teaching and learning science by teachers graduated from Teachers Institute in secondary school. The instruments used in this study are the questionnaire, an observation checklist and semi-structured interview. The respondents of this study consist of teachers who have a Post Graduate Teacher Course (KPLI) from the Teacher’s Institute. They are currently serving in the district of Besut and Setiu in Terengganu. The quantitative data was processed by using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS Version 13.0 for Windows). The finding of this study indicated that the usage of the Needham’s Five Phases Constructivism model is still at moderate level with mean average at 3.76. The teaching and learning process is still obviously teacher’s centered. There are various obstacles that lead to the inability of respondents implementing the Needham’s Five Phase C.....

This qualitative study was carried out to explore the understanding of Form Four students about the concept of quadratic equations, to identify the errors made by students when solving quadratic equations and also to identify the reasons why the misconceptions about quadratic equations occurred among students. Ten students were selected through purposive sampling. Data of this study consisted of verbal information and non-verbal information which was collected through interviews and test-questions. The data was analyzed through transcription. The findings of the study showed that students have their own understanding about the concept of quadratic equations. The findings also suggested that students committed seven types or errors when they were solving quadratic equations, i.e. assuming there is only one answer, creating own rules, factorization, invalid cancellation, not writing the equation in the standard form, not putting factorization equals to ‘0’ and basic algebraic operati.....

In this study, the researcher developed a courseware, Perisian Multimedia Elektrokimia (PME) and studied its effectiveness as a learning aid. PME has been designed to be consistent with the form four chemistry syllabus for electrochemistry. The methodology for PME was based on the model designed by Allessi and Trollip (2001). Tutorial was used as the main pedagogical approach, while drill and practice, and simulation complete the scenario. PME was developed systematically based on behaviourism, cognitive and constructivism learning theories. Authorware 6.5 was used as the main programming software, while Macromedia Flash 5 was used to develop the animation elements. A questionaire was administered among the chemistry teachers in the district of Batang Padang secondary schools. They gave positive evaluation on PME. School-based curriculum development: an analysis of the issues and problems faced by teachers in implementing KTSP in Southern Aceh

Kurikulum Tingkat Satuan Pendidikan (KTSP) is a form of School-Based Curriculum Development (SBCD) that was introduced in Indonesia in the year 2006. It is a standard based curriculum which spells out curriculum standards and graduation standards. What is provided is just the curriculum specifications and the actual management and development of the curriculum become the responsibility of teachers. This is an innovation in that it is a different approach compared to the previous curriculum practice of providing the teachers with detail specifications, support materials, and guidelines which actually reduces the role of teachers to that of implementing the prescribed curriculum. KTSP requires the teachers to think through the curriculum, reflect, plan and strategise the teaching learning discourse that is to be enacted in the classroom situation. The shift to KTSP has strong implications for the role of the teachers, because the teachers have to take greater responsibility for their tea.....

Dialogue journal writing via e-mail and its effects on ESL students' writing skills

This study aims to find out the effectiveness of dialogue journal writing via e-mail on students’ English writing development. The evaluation was done by looking at the writing qualities that include overall effectiveness, the development of topic selection, the ability to control the sentence structure and grammar and the use of vocabulary. This study was conducted for five weeks and a total of 60 e-mail dialogue journal entries were gathered. Besides that, a questionnaires session was conducted after the e-mail dialogue journal writing session. The findings revealed that dialogue journal writing via e-mail activity helps to develop students’ writing skills in relation to writing quality and quantity. The study also revealed that e-mail dialogue journal writing activity encourages students to write as they are free to choose their own topics. Epidemiological studies pensensitifan allergens allergic three groups consisting of food , inhalan and apiculture products was conducted among residents Tanjong Malim , Perak . A total of 2523 respondents , including 141 indigenous population ( 41.4 % male , 58.5 % female : 30.8 % of children , 69.2 % adults : 94.4 % of the population urban , rural 5.6% ) were interviewed and underwent skin prick test . The purpose of this research is to develop a chemistry learning courseware that incorporates analogy. The topic selected for this research is ‘stoichiometry’ in the form 4 syllabus. The learning courseware produced is known as ‘Perisian Multimedia Stoikiometri berasaskan Analogi (PM2SA)’. In the development of the courseware, problems and weaknesses in the learning of stoichiometry were identified and suitable analogies for each concept were provided. A quasi-experimental approach of ‘non-randomized control group, pretest-posttest’ design was used in this research. The samples were 64 students consisting of 32 students for the experiment group and control group respectively. The experimental group used PM2SA (software with analogy) whereas the control group used PM2STA (software without analogy). This research has developed an educational computer based software named FracBlock to enhance learning the topic ?fraction? for year 4. This software is used as an enhancement activity and to help students to master the topic. FracBlock software is developed based on the Multimedia Development Alessi & Trollip Model. The design of this research is Quasi Pre & Post Trial method with a controlled group. The sampel for this research is sixty students from year 4, comprising thirty for the treatment group and another thirty for the controlled group. This research also determines the change in student‘s attitude towards computer and learning mathematics after using the FracBlock software and evaluating the software. The change in attitude is measured using questionnaire which was translated from the Yong Children’s Computer Inventory and childrens attitude towards learning mathematics is measured with also a questionnaire translated from the Fennema-Sherman Attitude Scales.
