This study sought to identify the chemical composition of smoke condensate of Goniothalamus andersonii (Annonaceae) and comparatively evaluate the effectiveness of smoke condensate. The chemical composition has been determined by GC-MS. Five main components were contained in aqueous fraction, namely eugenol (25.31%), (E)-cinnamaldehyde (21.13%), hexamethylene diacrylate (7.0%), caryophyllene (6.25%), and ethyl oleate (4.3%). While, three main components were detected in the n-hexane fractions, namely guaiol (8.98%), ?-eudesmol (5.71%), and (-)-cyperene (3.06%). Laboratory research was conducted to determine the repellency of the smoke condensate of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes at two levels of concentration (5.0% and 10.0%). Tests were carried out to establish the percentage reduction of mosquito landing for each of the concentrations. The synthetic insect repellent, N, N-diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET), was used as a standard at a similar level of concentration. At 5.0% concentration, DEET pro.....

The design and development of a learning strategy to enhance students engagement in simultaneous equations: an evaluation viewpoint
Mohd Ridhuan Mohd Jamil
In the 21st century, teaching and learning mathematics courses witness significant expansion and development of technology use, which creates a shift from teacher-centred to student-centred learning engagement. Student engagement (SE) faces many challenges of poor performance and student difficulty in solving simultaneous equations involving indices (SEII), among others. This paper presents an evaluation viewpoint of the learning strategy (LS) with cooperative learning strategy (CLS) and GeoGebra (GG) integration to support SE in SEII. The LS employs the think-pair-share approach and the six (6) principles of learning phases associated with constructivism ideology. The discussion of the preliminary mathematical achievement test (MAT-test) from pre-and post-tests with 41 students who have learned SEII using the developed LS is also presented. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with three experienced lecturers to provide feedback and recommendations on interacting with LS. The the.....

Polyurethane application to transform screen-printed electrode for rapid identification of histamine isolated from fish
Mohamad Syahrizal Ahmad
The toxicity of histamine has attracted numerous researchers to develop a method for histamine determination purposes. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) unequivocally prohibits the consumption of histamine above 50 mgkg-1. Thus, an innovation in histamine detection in fish has been developed in this research. The investigation of the histamine level in fish has been conducted by using an electrochemical sensor approach and producing a polymer via molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) on a screen-printed electrode. The technique was validated by assessing the shifts in electron shifting using the cyclic voltammetry (CV) approach and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), whereas differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) was applied to validate the sensor method. The instruments showed a linear response ranging from 1-1000 nmolL-1, with a detection limit of MIP/SPE at 1.765 nmolL-1 and 709 nmolL-1 for the NIP/SPE, respectively. The sensing technique was employed to determine the his.....
