New user experiences become possible to afford AR capabilities with the advent of powerful smartphones. Mostly, studies related to the use of augmented reality in education focus on cognition with little consideration is given to emotions which is important in learning. Therefore, this research aims to identify salient connections between emotions and design elements of augmented reality-based online learning material by applying Kansei Engineering (KE) approach. In this research, mobile augmented reality application related to the human heart was prepared to be used as a case for the study. The SLA Threshold model was employed based on the constituents of behaviorist and mentalist theories. The study analyzed the phenomena and the contributing variables as a result of the interference. The relationship between phenomena and contributing variables were also studied. Mixed method approaches with a concurrent triangulation design were used for this study. A number of 60 pre-service teachers in a teacher education institution in Ipoh were chosen using purposive sampling method as studied samples. The development of CoMARLA is based on a framework guided by Moshman’s constructivist learning principles and Keller’s motivation principles. This study was based on a quantitative approach using a quasiexperimental method that employed a 2 by 2 factorial research design. The independent variable was the learning method and the dependant variables were students’ learning achievement and motivation, with gender as the moderator variable.
