2023 Article | Rigidoporus microporus and the white root rot disease of rubber Al-Obaidi, Jameel R. Rigidoporus microporus is an economically important plant pathogenic fungus causing particularly severe losses to the rubber industry worldwide. The pathogen is responsible for white root rot (WRR) disease, infecting the host roots via white fibrous mycelia, causing vascular disfunction, and visible symptoms including leaf discolouration and dieback in severely infected trees. The final stage of the disease is characterized by the appearance of basidiocarps at the tree collar. The development of WRR in rubber plantations is dependent on fungal diversity in the soil, pH, temperature, and cation levels. Several -omics approaches have been undertaken to understand how R.microporus functions with the objective, ultimately, to control WRR. Unfortunately, no resistant rubber clone has been identified to date. The disease is managed through physical and chemical methods that are laborious and negatively impact the environment, respectively. Recent developments in research on R.microporus shed..... 280 hits

2023 Article | Using a web-based and stand-alone oscilloscope for physics experiment during Covid-19 pandemic Mahizah Ismail Teaching alternating currents, ac or sound waves, is incomplete without an introduction to the oscilloscope. An oscilloscope is a tool that graphically displays electrical signals and shows their time dependence. However, due to the pandemic, triggered by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, many students do not have the opportunity to master the use of an oscilloscope. Face-to-face teaching activity has been interrupted in both schools and higher institutions. The sudden change to online teaching created problems among educators, especially for laboratory activities. The central issue is creating laboratory activities without going into the labs for the students to acquire the required skills, especially the basics of how to operate an oscilloscope. In order to create an opportunity and engaging environment, we suggested the use of the web-based and stand-alone oscilloscope. The software consists of a low-frequency (signal) generator (LFG), a direct current power supply, and an oscilloscope. The LFG..... 265 hits
2023 Article | EM-FOR: simple and low-cost force on a straight current-carrying conductor in a magnetic field experimental kit Anis Nazihah Mat Daud In this study, we design and construct a low-cost experimental kit for the force on a straight current-carrying conductor in a magnetic field experiment, namely EM-FOR. The kit consists of several pairs of rectangular-shaped permanent magnets with different polarities facing each other on a U-shaped aluminium casing as the source of the magnetic field, a straight copper wire at the centre between the two magnets as the electrical conductor, conductor rings and connecting wires to connect conductor and electrical source, and an electronic balance to measure the magnitude and to determine the direction of the force on a straight current-carrying conductor in a magnetic field. The design of the EM-FOR experimental kit was validated by determining the magnitude and direction of the force on a straight current-carrying conductor in a magnetic field for normal and reverse connections to a power supply. The constructed kit can be utilized for three experiments: the effects of applied current,..... 244 hits
2023 Article | Estimating solid waste generation and suitability analysis of landfill sites using regression, geospatial, and remote sensing techniques in Rangpur, Bangladesh Zullyadini A. Rahaman Municipal solid waste(MSW) management has been a growing problem in fast-developing cities. A considerable amount of solid waste is generated daily and disposed anywhere, which creates an unhealthy environment. This study aims to develop a model to determine household solid waste (HSW) generation using multiple linear regression and identify suitable landfill sites to ensure proper MSW disposal in Rangpur City, Bangladesh. Socioeconomic variables data like average monthly income, educational level, family size, age of family head, and average HSW generation per day were collected from 381 respondents through stratified random sampling with a 95% confidence level. Multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) was performed using variables like surface water, slope, road network, and land use through GIS and remote sensing to find suitable landfill sites. Results of the model show no multicollinearity as the variance inflation factor was estimated to be less than 2 for each independent variabl..... 375 hits
2023 Article | Altering coupled mode of surface plasmon resonance mediated by silver and gold nanoparticles through heat treatment: judd ofelt, racah and NIR-luminescence of neodymium doped magnesiumzinc-sulfophosphate glass Muhammad Noorazlan Abd Azis Manipulating surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of silver (Ag) and gold (Au) nanoparticles (NPs) in amorphous material may open new possibilities in optic and photonic fields. Driven by this fact, heat treatments (HT) were used to tune the excitation mode of SPR. The Nd3+ doped magnesium-zinc-sulfophosphate glasses embedded with Ag and Au NPs were heat-treated at 450 C for 6 and 12 h and characterized using X-ray diffractometer (XRD), high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM), UVVisNIR absorption and photoluminescence (PL) spectrometer. The mean size of NPs was slightly reduced (4.68 nm? 4.35 nm) after 12 h of HT due to the elastic ripening process, causes by internal pressure within NPs. Unusual multiple SPR bands were evidence around 419, 481, 613, 676, 776, 848 and 939 nm after the glass (AgAu6h) is heat-treated for 6 h. Thirteen absorption bands are recorded within 326875 nm, corresponding to the Nd3+ ion transitions. The NIR PL bands of Nd3+ ion were detected around 87..... 214 hits
