2021 Article | Pre-university students' conceptual understanding of functions and derivatives through graphical reasoning Raja Lailatul Zuraida Raja Maamor Shah It will be inspiring for the students, to deal with visual learning strategy as it entails creative and critical thinking which students seem to lack. Students' difficulties in relating derivative to its graphical representation is central discussion among the mathematics community and calculus literature. This study evaluates students' ability to use Cartesian graphs, as visual tools, to reason when solving tasks on derivatives and continue to check on the types of conceptual reasoning they assumed. Two tasks were distributed to 194 pre-university students to extract and interpret properties of derivatives. Students exhibit mix levels of graph understanding depending on the degree of difficulty of the tasks, while algebraic methods still dominate their thinking. We conjecture that reading and interpreting graph are not independent of understanding the content knowledge of particular subjects or topics. The results of the study help teachers, curriculum developers and textbook authors ..... 840 hits

2021 Article | Prediction of epidemic trends in COVID-19 with mann-kendall and recurrent forecasting-singular spectrum analysis Shazlyn Milleana Shaharudin Novel coronavirus also known as COVID-19 was first discovered in Wuhan, China by end of 2019. Since then, the virus has claimed millions of lives worldwide. In 29th April 2020, there were more than 5,000 outbreak cases in Malaysia as reported by the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOHE). This study aims to evaluate the trend analysis of the COVID-19 outbreak using Mann-Kendall test, and predict the future cases of COVID-19 in Malaysia using Recurrent Forecasting-Singular Spectrum Analysis (RF-SSA) model. The RF-SSA model was developed to measure and predict daily COVID-19 cases in Malaysia for the coming 10 days using previously-confi rmed cases. A Singular Spectrum Analysis-based forecasting model that discriminates noise in a time series trend is introduced. The RF-SSA model assessment is based on the World Health Organization (WHO) offi cial COVID-19 data to predict the daily confi rmed cases after 29th April until 9th May, 2020. The preliminary results of Mann-Kendall test showed a de..... 504 hits
2021 Article | Practical risk management approaches among small and medium enterprises Gan, Pei-Tha The focus on economic diversification has led to increased support for the establishment and development of SMEs by Omani government in order to contribute in GDP. Risk management has become a major challenge for SMEs in the country due to the lack of experience and knowledge. This research focuses on 'Risk Practical Management Strategies'adopted by SMEs to manage risk. The research is accomplished through a qualitative approach, gathered primary data through interviews and analyzed thematically to establish the trends and patterns in the data. The findings show that there is substantial awareness of the importance of risk management specially in financial and operational which are the key risks faced by businesses, coupled with reputational risk that is associated with the increased use of ecommerce. The RPMS are largely linked to training and developing awareness about risk among SMEs. ? 2021. Taha Redha Al Qubtan et al; published by UIKTEN. | 5087 | 2021 Article | Post-coating treatment effects on the physicomechanical and corrosion resistance of plasma-sprayed hydroxyapatite (FSHA) on TI-13NB-13ZR alloy for biomedical applications Che Nor Aiza Jaafar ? titanium alloys are widely used in orthopaedic applications as an alternative to the high modulus ? + ? titanium alloys which leads to aseptic loosening of implants as a result of the mismatch of the modulus to that of human bone. Hydroxyapatite (HA) coating has been used to enhance the biological properties of Ti alloys. The present study determined the effect of heat treatment on the properties of plasma-sprayed low modulus Ti-13Nb-13Zr alloy using a natural and economical HA derived from fish scales (FsHA) and FsHA-doped yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ). The microstructure was examined by SEM-EDS and the hardness was determined using Vickers hardness tester whereas the corrosion resistance was studied using potentiodynamic polarization method. The SEM micrograph of the as-coated FsHA revealed micro pores and cracks with partially melted and unmelted FsHA particles while the as-coated FsHA/YSZ samples developed denser coatings, lesser number of pores with increased number of melted..... 1024 hits
2021 Article | Polymeric nanocomposite-based herbicide of carboxymethyl cellulose coated-zinc/aluminium layered double hydroxide-quinclorac: a controlled release purpose for agrochemicals Norhayati Hashim Abstract: In this work, the use of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) is highlighted in enhancing the controlled release behaviour of zinc/aluminium layered double hydroxide-quinclorac (Zn/Al-LDH-QC). The Zn/Al-LDH-QC-CMC nanocomposite were characterised using powder x-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric and derivative thermogravimetric analysis and field emission scanning electron microscopy. The release study was carried out in an aqueous solution of Na3PO4, Na2SO4 and NaCl, so as to mimic the environmental condition where the QC is frequently used. The Zn/Al-LDH-QC-CMC nanocomposites showed better performance in releasing QC, with prolonged release time ranging from 163?6083min, compared to 99?2639min for the uncoated nanocomposites. The hygroscopic nature of the CMC play a critical role in enhancing the release behaviour of the Zn/Al-LDH-QC-CMC. The kinetic study shows that the Zn/Al-LDH-QC-CMC follows the pseudo-second order kinetic model; ..... 361 hits
2021 Article | Pollutant transport and residence time of a shallow and narrow coastal lagoon estimated using a numerical model Mohd Fadzil Akhir Setiu Wetland is rapidly developing into an aquaculture and agriculture hub, causing concern about its water quality condition. To address this issue, it is imperative to acquire knowledge of the spatial and temporal distributions of pollutants. Consequently, this study applied combinations of hydrodynamic and particle tracking models to identify the transport behaviour of pollutants and calculate the residence time in Setiu Lagoon. The particle tracking results indicated that the residence time in Setiu Lagoon was highly influenced by the release location, where particles released closer to the river mouth exhibited shorter residence times than those released further upstream. Despite this fact, the pulse of river discharges successfully reduced the residence time in the order of two to twelve times shorter. Under different tidal phases, the residence time during the neap tide was longer regardless of heavy rainfalls, implying the domination of tidal flow in the water renewal within t..... 623 hits
