Adsorption of metal ions and dyes from aqueous solutions using lala clam (Paphia textile) shell

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of lala clam shell as an adsorbent for the remediation of water contaminated by metal ions and dyes. Three main studies, namely adsorption, desorption and characterisation, have been conducted. In this study, Cd(II), Cu(II), Pb(II), Congo red (CR), Methylene blue (MB), Rhodamine B (RB) and Methyl orange (MO) were used as contaminants. A systematic evaluation for adsorption process involving several experimental parameters such as solution pH, adsorbent dosage and initial adsorbate concentration was performed. The applicability of lala clam shell to remove metal ions and dyes from aqueous solution was assessed in both single- and mixsystem. Hydrochloric acid (HCl) and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) were used as desorption agents in desorption study. Synthesis, characterisation and application of gelatin-additive for food preservation

This study aims to evaluate potential of gelatin-chitosan (Gel-Cs) and gelatincarboxymethyl cellulose (Gel-CMC) films to preserve perishable food products. Three main studies, namely synthesis, characterisation and preservation have been conducted. Biopolymer films were prepared by using solvent casting method with three volume per volume (Gelatin:Additive) ratios, namely 75:25, 50:50 and 25:75. In this study, chitosan\ and CMC were used as additives in gelatin-based film forming solutions. The characterisation study was carried out by using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectrometer, Ultraviolet-Visible (UV-Vis) Spectrophotometer, Universal Testing Machine, Thermogravimetric Analyser (TGA) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). This aims to prepare multiwall carbon nanotubes / polymer nanocomposite stabilized by 1-butyl-3-methyl-imidazolium (BMIM)-surfactant. Dispersibility of MWCNTs in cellulose and natural rubber latex polymer matrix was studied and prepared via latex technology approaches by addition of 1-butyl-3-methyl-imidazolium (BMIM)- surfactant. The ability of BMIM-surfactants for dispersing MWCNTs in polymer was characterized using a range of techniques including field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and small angle neutron scattering (SANS). And for-point probe measurements. Research finding showed that MWCNTs were more efficiently dispersed in cellulose utilizing 1-butyl-3 methylimidazolium- dodecyl benzene sulfonate (BMIM-DBS) than commercially available surfactant sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS). Kajian ini dijalankan untuk mengenal pasti kesan teknik eksplorasi Internet berasaskan pendekatan konstruktivisme terhadap penulisan karangan fakta murid tingkatan empat. Kajian ini menggunakan reka bentuk campuran, iaitu kuantitatif dan kualitatif untuk mencapai lima objektif khusus. Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah kuasi-eksperimen dan analisis karangan. Sampel kajian terdiri daripada 73 orang murid tingkatan empat di salah sebuah sekolah di dalam Daerah Hilir Perak, Teluk Intan. Murid bagi kumpulan kawalan ialah 35 orang, manakala murid kumpulan rawatan ialah 38 orang. Dua orang guru juga dipilih sebagai sampel untuk penilaian pencapaian karangan. This study aims to determine the effects of character strengths learning in teaching and learning of mathematics towards students’ achievement and develop the character strengths so that students are engaged in classroom and to achieve well-being. The quasi experimental non-equivalent control group pre-post-test design was employed on two form two intact classes from a secondary school in Keningau, Sabah. Both classes were randomly selected and divided into treatment (CSL) involving 33 students and control (CT) group involving 32 students. Transformation topic was selected to be taught and the experiment process took up around five weeks to complete. Obesiti merupakan fenomena yang sedang mengancam kesihatan dan kesejahteraan masyarakat dunia. Kajian ini bertujuan membina instrumen soal selidik peramal faktor obesiti. Kajian ini melibatkan pelajar berumur 13 dan 14 tahun di Klang, Selangor. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk menganggar peratus lemak tubuh ialah instrumen pengukuran komposisi tubuh kaedah lapangan adalah Indeks Jisim Tubuh, Bio Impedance Analysis, dan Ujian Lipatan Kulit. Manakala instrumen soal selidik peramal faktor obesiti dibina berdasarkan adaptasi daripada Physical Activity Questionaire for Older Children, The Adolescent Sedentary Activity Questionaire, dan Nutrition and Physical Activity Survey. Seramai 142 pelajar terlibat dalam kajian fasa satu. Hasil kajian mendapati Indeks Jisim Tubuh merupakan instrumen yang paling tepat bagi pengukuran komposisi tubuh kaedah lapangan yang ditentukan melalui kesahan convergent. Pengetahuan dan pelaksanaan kemahiran proses sains bersepadu dalam kalangan guru sains menengah rendah

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menilai pengetahuan dan pelaksanaan lima Kemahiran Proses Sains Bersepadu (KPSB) yang menggunakan rekabentuk kajian tinjauan. Sampel kajian terdiri daripada 390 orang guru sains menengah rendah. Mereka dipilih secara rawak berstrata dari 66 buah sekolah di Melaka. Instrumen terdiri daripada Ujian Pengetahuan KPSB, soal selidik Pelaksanaan KPSB, senarai semak dan protokol temubual. Perangkaan deskriptif secara keseluruhannya menunjukkan tahap pengetahuan dan tahap pelaksanaan adalah sederhana. Analisis MANOVA mendapati pelaksanaan KPSB guru lelaki adalah lebih tinggi berbanding dengan guru perempuan. Pengetahuan KPSB guru ijazah sarjana muda pula lebih tinggi berbanding dengan guru sarjana. Analisis Regresi Berganda menunjukkan sumbangan pemboleh ubah tak bersandar terhadap Pelaksanaan KPSB adalah sebanyak 33.7%. Antara faktor dominan yang menyumbang kepada Pelaksanaan KPSB ialah Pengetahuan Membina Hipotesis, Pengetahuan Mengeksperimen dan Pengetahuan Mengawa.....

Pembinaan dan pengesahan instrumen pentaksiran prestasi standard awal pembelajaran dan Perkembangan Awal Kanak-Kanak

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk membina dan mengesahkan Instrumen Pentaksiran Prestasi, Standard Awal Pembelajaran dan Perkembangan Awal Kanak-kanak. Kerangka pembinaan instrumen Miller (2013) telah menggabungkan 10 langkah pembentukan instrumen oleh McNamara (1996), Turner (2001) dan Wortham (2012). Kajian ini mengenal pasti empat faset pengukuran iaitu item dan domain, kanak-kanak, penilai dan kebezaan kefungsian faset dengan kurnpulan umur dalam enam domain pembelajaran awal kanak-kanak. Teori Generalizibiliti (Teori G) digunakan bertujuan mengenal pasti nilai kebergantungan setiap domain. Seramai 278 orang kanak-kanak berumur dua hingga empat tahun daripada lapan buah taska di Selangor telah dipilih melalui teknik pensampelan bertujuan. Analisis pengujian item-item dilakukan menggunakan perisian Facets 3.71 dan EduG 2.0. Dapatan menunjukkan enam domain pembelajaran awal kanak-kanak memenuhi semua andaian model Facets Rasch. Mobile Learning Application (MLA) refers to the use of mobile devices in delivering learning content using the advantages of mobile devices. Unfortunately, some drawbacks pertaining to such application have circumvented its use and purpose in classrooms. Two main problems are identified and highlighted in this study; i) problems found within the existing MLA and ii) lack of incorporation of mobile learning related concepts and theories in MLA development for children. Therefore, this study has fulfilled four main objectives; i) to analyse and identify the potential MLA model related concepts and theories, ii) to develop and validate a conceptual model by incorporating all potential MLA association related concepts and theories, iii) to develop MLA by implementing all elements incorporated in the conceptual model, and iv) to evaluate the MLA in terms of usability and effectiveness. Pembinaan, pengujian instrumen dan pengukuran tahap profesionalisme guru bimbingan dan kaunseling sekolah rendah

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk membina dan menguji kesahan dan kebolehpercayaan Instrumen Profesionalisme Guru Bimbingan dan Kaunseling (IPGBK), serta mengukur tahap profesionalisme guru bimbingan dan kaunseling sekolah rendah. Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Pembinaan instrumen ini dilakukan dengan menganalisis lima buah dokumen Standard Kaunselor Sekolah dari luar negara. Analisis kandungan setiap dokumen menghasilkan draf yang dinilai kesahannya oleh tiga orang pakar, manakala kebolehpercayaan instrumen diperoleh daripada 35 orang guru bimbingan dan kaunseling. Seramai 390 GBK, 140 orang ketua jabatan dan 252 orang rakan sekerja merupakan sampel untuk mengukur tahap profesionalisme menggunakan IPGBK dan amalan profesionalisme dikaji dengan kaedah temu bual dan pemerhatian ke atas empat orang guru bimbingan dan kaunseling.
