A comparison between various polymeric membranes for oily wastewater treatment via membrane distillation process
Suriani Abu Bakar
Oily wastewater (OW) is detrimental towards the environment and human health. The complex composition of OW needs an advanced treatment, such as membrane technology. Membrane distillation (MD) gives the highest rejection percentage of pollutants in wastewater, as the membrane only allows the vapor to pass its microporous membrane. However, the commercial membranes on the market are less efficient in treating OW, as they are prone to fouling. Thus, the best membrane must be identified to treat OW effectively. This study tested and compared the separation performance of different membranes, comparing the pressure-driven performance between the membrane filtration and MD. In this study, several ultrafiltration (UF) and nanofiltration (NF) membranes (NFS, NFX, XT, MT, GC and FILMTEC) were tested for their performance in treating OW (100 ppm). The XT and MT membranes (UF membrane) with contact angles of 70.4 0.2 and 69.6 0.26, respectively, showed the best performance with high flux and oil.....

Biosensor development in sports doping with dexamethasone
Elumalai, Gunathevan
Introduction: Dexamethasone is a type of drug that is considered a steroid. It belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. Objective: Develop an electrochemical sensor of dexamethasone in a pharmaceutical sample using electrodes modified with nanostructures of MnO2 and reduced graphene oxide (MnO2/rGO). The glassy carbon electrodes (GCE) used to make the GO nanostructures were first modified using a modified Hummers technique before electrochemically reduced. Methods: MnO2 nanomaterials were electrochemi-cally deposited on rGO/GCE. SEM structural investigation indicated vertical tetragonal crystal development of-MnO2 nanostructures in sprayed rGO nanostructures. Results: Because of the high composite surface area, multiple exposed active sites, and the synergistic effect of MnO2 and rGO, the electrocatalytic reaction to dexamethasone of MnO2/rGO/CPE was shown to be broad, selective, stable, and sensitive in electrochemical tests using amperometry. It was established that the .....

Field measurement of air velocity and temperature factors that influence the thermal comfort in shuttle bus
Arasinah Kamis
Good public transportation that can offer a pleasant peaceful and relaxing environment is necessary for improving people's interest in using it. Thermal comfort is determined in this study by measuring the air velocity and temperature of the air-conditioning from the outlet. Both data are taken using a digital anemometer and thermocouple with three replications for reproducibility. For data collection, a 10-row shuttle bus was held immobile for 30 minutes. According to the data, outlet 5 received the highest air velocity and the lowest temperature, at 9.12 ms-1 and 13.6 C, respectively. It was also discovered that the design of the air-conditioning ducting impacts the reachability of cooled air to the farthest outlets, adversely affecting the target cool temperature and passenger comfortability. It is suggested that in order to promote the attractiveness of public transportation, the inner bus compartment and air-conditioning system in hot countries should prioritise thermal comfort. 2.....

Bahbibi Rahmatullah
Online  distance  learning,  on  the  one  side,  makes  the  learning  process  more  efficient  and  flexible.  However,  on  the  other  hand,  it  produces  learning  loss  within  a  particular  educational  period  and  makes  students  less  enthusiastic  about  building  a  collaborative  attitude.  In  general,  online  learning  platform providers have provided support for collaboration activity features, but in reality, they have not been able to support effective interaction. Experts believe that using the Personal Learning Environment (PLE) as an IT tool in the learning process can help create an effective online collaboration environment. This study found that PLE was proven to increase collaborative activities in online learning significantly.  The  reflection  feature  is  the  type  of  PLE  that  has  the  most  significant influence on creating a good collaboration environment. The research also   found   th.....
