Azman Azid
The aim of this study is to determine the concentration of particulate matter and airborne microorganism and to evaluate the relationship between particulate matter and airborne microorganism in goat farm of Pasir Akar, Terengganu, Malaysia. Aeroqual 500 series sensor was used to collect particulate matter, while DRF e-MAS was used to catch the airborne microorganism. The collected airborne microorganism was incubated in laboratory and the colony forming unit (cfu) of airborne microorganism was determined using Omeliansky's formula based on colonial observation formed after incubation. The data were analysed using descriptive analysis to gain parameter concentration and regression analysis to gain significance difference and correlation to assess the relationship between particulates and airborne microbes. As a result, any particulate matter changes will affect airborne microorganism population. ? Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd...

Red emission, upconversion and intensity parameters of erbium oxide doped tellurite glass for laser glass
Muhammad Noorazlan Abd Azis
This work presents the effect of erbium oxide in tellurite glass on the intensity parameters, emission and upconversion to be used as laser glass. We select 0.04mol fraction of erbium oxide in tellurite glass as it gives the optimum results for glass stability, luminescence and intensity parameters. The structural arrangement of glass matrices was revealed by XRD analysis. The amorphous structural arrangement was found and there was no crystalline structure existed in the glass matrix. The FTIR analysis revealed the existence of TeO3 non-bridging oxygen which has important role in the shifting of the optical parameters. The Judd?Ofelt analysis (intensity parameters, ?? = 2, 4, 6) were studied by applying nine transition states obtained from UV?Vis-NIR absorption spectrum which were 4G11/2 + 2H9/2 + 4F5/2 + 4F7/2 + 2H11/2 + 4S3/2 + 4F9/2 + 4I9/2 + 4I11/2. The obtained results for the intensity parameters were in accordance by the following trends ?2 > ?4 > ?6. A broad red emission at.....

Red blood cell shapes parameterization using partial differential equations
Norhayati Ahmat
The research aim's is to produce distinguishable shapes of red blood cells (RBC) by utilizing partial differential equations (PDE). This work employs the solution of a fourth-order elliptic PDE in alliance with a group of boundary conditions as a technique to design the shapes, known as the PDE method. This method can generate various surfaces based on a boundary representation with fewer parameters. Furthermore, it is easy to modify the shape of PDE-based surfaces because it is characterized by data scattered around the boundaries. The findings showed that the PDE method is suitable in designing a normal RBC's shape. In addition, two equations have been obtained from the data regarding the normal RBC's radius and height. These equations can be utilized to transform the parametric design of RBC to abnormal cells by changing the value of some parameters. In conclusion, the PDE method is capable to create smooth parametric surface representations of any given blood cells shape, as well a.....

Rebaudioside A Enhances LDL Cholesterol Uptake in HepG2 Cells via Suppression of HMGCR Expression
Ajat, Mokrish
Background: Rebaudioside A is one of the major diterpene glycosides found in Stevia had been reported to possess anti-hyperlipidemic effects. In this study, we explore the potential cholesterol-regulating mechanisms of Rebaudioside A in the human hepatoma (HepG2) cell line in comparison with simvastatin. Methods: Cells were incubated with Rebaudioside A at several concentrations (0-10 ?M) to determine the cytotoxicity by the MTT assay. Cells were treated with selected dosage (1 and 5 ?M) in further experiments. Total cellular lipid was extracted by Bligh and Dyer method and subjected to quantitative colorimetric assay. To illustrate the effect of Rebaudioside A on cellular lipid droplets and low-density lipoprotein receptors, treated cells were subjected to immunofluorescence microscopy. Finally, we investigated the expression of experimental gene patterns of cells in response to treatment. Results: In this study, cytotoxicity of Rebaudioside A was determined at 27.72 ?M. Treatment of .....

Real-time sign language framework based on wearable device: analysis of MSL, DataGlove, and gesture recognition
Alamoodi, Abdullah Hussein
Researchers have been inspired to use technology to enable people with hearing and speech impairment to communicate and engage with others around them. Sensory approach to recognition facilitates real-time and accurate recognition of signs. Thus, this study proposes a Malaysian Sign Language (MSL) recognition framework. The framework consists of three sub-modules for the recognition of static isolated signs based on data collected from a DataGlove. The first module focuses on the characteristics of signs, yielding sign recognition system requirements. The second module describes the different steps required to develop a wearable sign-capture device. The third module discusses the real-time SL recognition approach, which uses a template-matching algorithm to recognize acquired data. The final design of the DataGlove with 65 data channel fulfils the requirement identified from an analysis of MSL. The DataGlove is able to record data for all of the signs (both dynamic and static) of MSL d.....

Real-time information sharing, customer orientation, and the exploration of intra-service industry differences: Malaysia as an emerging market
Akhtar, Pervaiz
Differences in business practices and preferences are vital for understanding specific industries, particularly in relation to downstream operations in emerging markets. This study explores the effects of real-time information sharing (RTIS) on downstream operations in three service sub-sectors that are dominated by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) - wholesale & retail, food & beverages, and accommodation. Drawing on information processing theory, we examine the differences in the adoption and perceived benefits for customers of RTIS through a survey of 221 middle-level managers from Malaysia. Our findings indicate that, overall, RTIS is significantly associated with customer purchase behavior (PB) in the presence of customer orientation (CO) that plays a two-fold mediating role in purchase and repurchase behavior. Our results also point to sectoral differences. RTIS?with customer PB and post-purchase behavior in the presence of CO?is more effective in the wholesale & retail a.....

Readability formulas: an analysis into reading index of prose forms
Gopal, Revathi
Text comprehension will suffer if the readability level is not accessible to the students. Readability formulas predict text complexity, assisting in appropriate text selection that complements students? reading abilities to improve their language development. Therefore, the study aims to find out the reading index of the prose forms in the literature component catered to lower secondary school students ages 13 and 14 years old in Form One (seventh grade) and Form Two (eighth grade) classrooms in Malaysia. The reading index is measured by using four readability formulas which are Dale-Chall, Fog, SMOG, and Flesch-Kincaid that focuses on the words, sentences, syllables, and polysyllable words. These formulas are used to predict the level of difficulty of the prose forms. The reading index calculated from these readability formulas reveals the grade level of the prose forms. The grade level indicates the best age for reading and understanding the prose forms. Two prose forms were chosen .....
