Adventure learning in basics statistics: Impact on students critical thinking

Malaysia Ministry of Education has put critical thinking skills elements into one of the six aspirations that pupils need to achieve. This was a turning point that teaching methods should be transformed. Therefore, innovation of teaching methods needs to be done. One of the strategies suggested is adventure-based learning (ABL). The main objective of this study is to examine the impact of ABL methods in the teaching of Basic Statistics on critical thinking skills. This study uses a quantitative approach with quasi experimental pre and post design. Only one group of students is formed. The study was based on the cluster sampling method and involving the semester two students of the Preparation Programme of Teaching Bachelor (PPTB). Instruments used are modules of adventure-based teaching methods and critical thinking skills tests. Binary logistic regression analysis of instructional leadership factors affecting English language literacy in Primary Schools

This paper discusses the factors contributing to student achievement in English language literacy in primary schools within Sibu division, Sarawak, Malaysia. The study involved 694 teachers who taught in 105 lower primary schools. Binary logistic regression was applied to predict the instructional leadership’s influence on student achievement in literacy. The findings revealed that one dimension of instructional leadership - supervising and evaluating instruction - emerged as strong predictors of literacy. The result indicated that schools were more than 17 times more likely to achieve 100% literacy rate when the instruction processes were supervised and evaluated by the headmasters. Supervision and evaluation of instruction had a positive influence on students’ achievement for English language literacy, hence making this a possible course of action for school heads. More comprehensive studies are needed to ascertain its consistency as well as investigating other predictors for lit.....

Students interest toward learning activities based-on 4Cs skills in Mathematics classroom: A need analysis study

In a study of module development, need analysis should be carried out in order to ensure the module developed will be able to fulfil consumers’ needs. Therefore, this study is a part of need analysis study in a research of developing pedagogy module of active learning based on 4Cs skills for Number and Basic Operation in Mathematics (PA4K Module). The 4Cs skills are consist of critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity. This study was carried out to identify students’ interest toward learning activities based on 4Cs skills in mathematics classroom. 70 of Year Three pupils were involved in this study and they have responded to the questionnaire provided. The findings show in average that pupils agreed at high level to the items related to critical thinking (Mean = 4.38) very high level of interest toward communication (Mean = 4.59), collaboration (Mean = 4.63) and creativity (Mean = 4.51). University reputation and alumni donation: Empirical evidence from Malaysia

In marketing literature, reputable brand had always enjoy consumer loyalty and lead to several brand supportive behaviors such as brand recommendation and helping behavior. In the context of higher education institution, reputable university is postulated to gain stakeholders support. Stakeholders especially university’s alumni is hope to contribute back to their university either in term of monetary or non-monetary support. Study that attempts to examine on how alumni response towards their university reputation in term of donor and giving rather limited especially in Malaysia context. Hence, this study attempts to link the relationship between university reputation and alumni donor behavior. A quantitative survey among 193 alumni in Malaysia revealed that one out of three dimensions of university reputation namely; responsible management statistically influenced alumni donor behavior towards their alma maters. Students course experience : Reflections of outcome-based education implementation in accounting programmes in higher education

The purpose of the study is to analyse the level of implementation of four (4) principles of OBE; design down, clarity of focus, extended opportunity and high expectations in the courses offered in Accounting Degree Programme. The implementation level is assessed through students experience in major accounting courses by modification of Students Course Experience (SCE) questionnaire. 148 accounting degree students from three (3) HEs are the samples for this study. Students’ achievement in Programme Outcomes (PO) is measured by categorizing the outcomes into two (2) categories of skills, Accounting Disciplinary Skills and Practical Competence. Students’ achievement in Accounting Programme Outcomes is measured to examine students’ achievement under OBE curriculum design. Responses on students’ achievement are provided by two sides of stakeholders, the students and educators.
