Professional knowledge and the begining teacher
R. Hagger Hazel,
As the holding of this conference suggests, the preparation of new teachers is a hot topic, and it is not an exaggeration to assert that both the structure and quality of teacher education programmes are the subject of international concern. If we are serious in our desire to improve teacher education, then rather than taking as our starting point questions such as “to what extent should central government direct change?”, we should begin by tackling two much more basic, and deceptively simple looking questions: - What knowledge do beginning teachers need? - How , and in what contexts, are they most likely to acquire that knowledge? Over the next hour, in addressing these questions, I shall be making the case for school-based teacher education and for the enhanced role of experienced teachers in teacher preparation, and shall end by outlining what I see as the challenges facing all of us who care about the quality of new entrants to the profession...

Teacher knowledge and professional education : the case of pedagogical content knowledge
Grossman Pam,
Almost 20 years ago, Lee Shulman coined the term pedagogical content knowledge in his presidential address to the American Educational Research Association. In his address, L.ee described pedagogical content knowledge as for the most regularly taught topics in one's subject area, the most useful forms of representations of those ideas, the most powerful analogies, illustrations, examples, explanations, and demonstrations—in a word, ways of representing and formulating the subject that make it comprehensible to others. Pedagogical content knowledge also includes an understanding of what makes the learning of specific topics easy or difficult; the conceptions and preconceptions that students of different ages and backgrounds bring with them to the learning of those most frequently taught topics and lessons. (Shulman, 1986, p. 9-10)..

Teacher appraisal and teacher professional development : conditions set up for the linkage
Lau Hieng Soon,
The notion of a general push for accountability and professionalism has initiated appraisal schemes in many professions, including the teaching profession. Though the literature on the subject is foil of different definitions for appraising teachers such as School Teacher Appraisal, Performance Review, Staff Review and so on, they are basically similar aiming at different purposes. These include staff development, institutional improvement, reward, promotion and even related to pay. To institute the Teacher Appraisal Scheme purely for professional development such as the case in Malaysia, conditions need to be set up to avoid the occurrence in which the scheme may be disguised or openly used for other purposes. The purposes of appraisal, training of the appraisers and appraised, the approach and methods of appraising, the procedure of appraisal and others need to be clearly and objectively specified so as to minimize the shortcomings of the scheme. The teacher appraisal schemes should .....

Inter-cultural musicology in Music education : perspective thinking for future Music education in Malaysia
Bramantyo Triyono,
Background identity whether it is occidental and or oriental. It is a culture as a global entity and the differential to other cultures can only enrich the people cultures of the world. In this point of view, there is no one culture that is dominant to another cultures, as well as that there is no superior and vise versa inferior in a culture of the whole world societies. It means that even a culture that is live and practice by an aborigine society cannot be exterminated as a backward culture to be compared to a township and or marginal and even metropolitan society. For an aborigine society, a culture is their life itself and thus cannot be separated as an element that can be easily evaluated as a primitive culture. The use of communication apparatus however primitive is as useful and effective for the aboriginal people as well as their natural knowledge in their daily life. To judge that they are backward and primitive if only because of secular and secondary elements like the way o.....

Reconceptualizing professional literacy in teacher education : foundations of education reconstructed
Ratnavadivel Nagendralingan,
Social interaction within a society gives rise to the formulation of ideologies subscribed to by that society The dominant deology or the ideology espoused by the dominant group becomes the template for philosophies, policies and practices espoused by that society. The character and context of the social interaction determines the nature and content of the ideology which determines the basis and focus of the philosophy, purpose of policies and directions of practices in education (Ratnavadivel, 1985) However, it would be erroneous to assume that ideology assumes a static form and transcends time, space and context. As much as social interaction determines ideology and ideology dictates social interaction leading to an interactive, dialogical and dialectical relationship between philosophy (thinking/cognitive dimension) and practice (action/psychomotor and affective dimensions), changing trends will catalyze changing needs and changing thoughts which will impact on practices, thereby de.....

Are religious values universal
Morris Paul,
Are religious values universal? After studying and teaching religious studies for nearly thirty years it is hard not to recognise that there are indeed a plethora of local, indigenous, and revivalist religious traditions, both within larger religions and independent of them. There are many Judaisms, Islams, Christianities, Buddhisms, Hinduisms and Daoisms. My researches have led me to the conclusion that the differences between religious traditions are real and not easily reduced to any single pattern or model. But there are, of course, many overlapping elements, conceptual, theological and most evidently historical. I am anxious about any list of universal values divorced from (he context of their interpretation and application in living religious communities. Our values are those we live rather than those we merely aspire to without direct and immediate impact on our daily lives. Any list of values will exclude and stigmatise those that fail to fully accord with it. These failures wi.....

Pengajaran kemahiran komunikasi bagi murid-murid bermasalah pembelajaran teruk
Ahmad Noor Aini, Mahamod Zamri, Aziz Zahara,
Proses P&P kemahiran bukan lisan dap.....

Perkembangan teknologi & perubahan nilai kekeluargaan Melayu
Harun Yaacob,
