Reaching out to group contingencies in the ESL classroom
Gopal, Revathi
The most significant task for a teacher is to keep students engaged in the classroom. Teachers can use group contingencies like independent, dependent, and interdependent to assist students in being more involved in classroom tasks. This study identifies the effects of group contingencies in regulating students' engagement in ESL classroom tasks. Samples comprise 27 Form 4 mixed-ability students from a secondary school in Selangor, Malaysia. The research used a mixed-method approach that included both quantitative and qualitative methods. The findings revealed positive motivation, task retention, and teamwork promotion outcomes. Student behaviour was found to have a detrimental impact, particularly among the weaker students, who were boisterous and essentially riders. Interdependent group contingency has been determined to be the most successful method for regulating student engagement in ESL classes. This study suggests that students be divided into interdependent groups to ensure tha.....

Federated learning for IoMT applications: a standardization and benchmarking framework of intrusion detection systems
Alamoodi, Abdullah Hussein
Efficient evaluation for machine learning (ML)-based intrusion detection systems (IDSs) for federated learning (FL) in the Internet of Medical Things (IoMTs) environment falls under the standardisation and multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) problems. Thus, this study is developing an MCDM framework for standardising and benchmarking the ML-based IDSs used in the FL architecture of IoMT applications. In the methodology, firstly, the evaluation criteria of ML-based IDSs are standardised using the fuzzy Delphi method (FDM). Secondly, the evaluation decision matrix (DM) is formulated based on the intersection of standardised evaluation criteria and a list of ML-based IDSs. Such formulation is achieved using a dataset with 125,973 records, and each record comprises 41 features. Thirdly, the integration of MCDM methods is formulated to determine the importance weights of the main and sub standardised security and performance criteria, followed by benchmarking and selecting the optimal ML-b.....

Toward sustainable transportation: a pavement strategy selection based on the extension of dual-hesitant fuzzy multicriteria decision-making methods
Alamoodi, Abdullah Hussein
Pavement strategy is critical for achieving sustainable transportation. However, the presence of many evaluation criteria, criteria tradeoffs, criteria conflict, and criteria importance categorize the evaluation and selection of pavement strategies under complex multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) problems. To date, no study has presented an evaluation framework for selecting the most optimal pavement strategy to be utilized as a way to achieve sustainable transportation considering multicriteria evaluation of pavement strategies and sustainable solutions. This article presents a pavement strategy selection based on a new extension of fuzzy MCDM methods. The methodology is developed in two phases. First, the evaluation decision matrix is formulated on the basis of intersecting the evaluation criteria and pavement strategies list. Second, the proposed MCDM methods are developed: multilayer dual hesitant fuzzy weighted zero inconsistency (DH-FWZIC) to assign weights to the pavements eva.....

A preliminary psychometric investigation of a Chinese version of athlete engagement questionnaire (AEQ)
Norsilawati Abdul Razak
Athlete engagement is one of the key indicators of athletes' positive psychology. It plays a crucial role in coping with burnout and disengagement, creating a flow experience, and improving their competitive ability and performance. In the last two decades, a mountain of literature has focused on engagement in different research settings. In the world of sports, the Athlete Engagement Questionnaire (AEQ) has been proven to be a reliable instrument to access athletes' engagement at both amateur and elite levels. The aim of this study is to investigate the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of AEQ. The original English athlete engagement questionnaire was translated into Chinese using the method of back-translation for data collection. Subsequently, 379 samples were performed for data analysis, mainly focusing on confirmatory factor analysis to examine the four-factor and second-order factor structures of 16 items measuring athlete engagement. The results reproduced four comp.....

Novel of neodymium nanoparticles zinc tellurite glasses in experimental and theoretical elastic properties using artificial intelligence approach
Muhammad Noorazlan Abd Azis
All the parameters under experimental elastic properties showed non-linear variations for Nd2O3 nanoparticles. Rocherulle and Makishima-Mackenzie's model involving theoretical elastic was retrieved and compared, along with bond compression and ring deformation models and experimental elastic properties. The corresponding set of data indicates comparable values with Makishima-Mackenzie and Rocherulle models. Although, the experimental elastic moduli exhibit higher values from bond compression model data in comparison with similar experimental values. Therefore, this model is not suitable for this glass system. Predictions from the artificial neural network (ANN) model interpreted through the relationship between the predicted and the experimental values provide an excellent R2 coefficient, lying between 0.9916 to 1.0000 for all values. This great approach via artificial neural network model has proven its validity for future glass research. 2022..

The bitcoin halving cycle volatility dynamics and safe haven-hedge properties: a MSGARCH approach
Phoong, Seuk Yen
This paper introduces a unique perspective towards Bitcoin safe haven and hedge properties through the Bitcoin halving cycle. The Bitcoin halving cycle suggests that Bitcoin price movement follows specific sequences, and Bitcoin price movement is independent of other assets. This has significant implications for Bitcoin properties, encompassing its risk profile, volatility dynamics, safe haven properties, and hedge properties. Bitcoins institutional and industrial adoption gained traction in 2021, while recent studies suggest that gold lost its safe haven properties against the S&P500 in 2021 amid signs of funds flowing out of gold into Bitcoin. Amid multiple forces at play (COVID-19, halving cycle, institutional adoption), the potential existence of regime changes should be considered when examining volatility dynamics. Therefore, the objective of this study is twofold. The first objective is to examine gold and Bitcoin safe haven and hedge properties against three US stock indices be.....
